Back Pain Relief in Five Easy Steps

Causes of Back Pain: The Usual Suspects

 

The most common causes of back pain are muscle strains. A muscle strain occurs whenever a muscle is damaged by bruising or tearing. Muscle strains are caused by everything from bending or stretching the wrong way to using bad posture when sitting. The back and spine support all the systems of the body. Constant stress on the spine means that most people will experience some form of back pain in their lifetimes.

 

Some other “usual suspects” commonly causing back pain are: slipped or herniated spinal disks, torn ligaments or tendons, nerve compression, osteoarthritis of the spine, incorrectly lifting heavy objects, moving the body in a sudden or unusual manner, obesity, and- for the ladies- wearing high heels. 

 

Just as lifting a heavy object can cause back pain, so can carrying around too much body fat. Obesity is a main cause of serious back pain. Pregnancy commonly causes lower back pain for a similar reason. Pregnancy can also, like high heels, change the body’s center of gravity, causing the body to tilt and apply more pressure to the spine.

 

Back Pain Relief Strategies

 

There as many ways to provide back pain relief as there are causes of back pain. Back pain relief strategies can be grouped into five categories: hot/cold application, oral medications, topical analgesics, strengthening exercises, and complementary methods.

 

The quickest and easiest way to ease a strained muscle or sore back is to apply a heating pad or 20 or 30 minute intervals. For pain with swelling, rotating ice for 20 to 30 minutes is also beneficial.

 

Non-prescription medications can reduce swelling and pain. Excellent pain relievers can be received using Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen sodium, and Aspirin. Muscle relaxants and prescription pain relievers may be required for more severe back pain relief. Topical creams like capsaicin cream, which is made of hot chili peppers, and aspirin creams can be rubbed into sore muscles to ease pain.

 

Yoga, physical therapy, and other exercises are helpful in long-term management of back pain. Exercise makes muscles stronger and less likely to suffer strain. Eastern and Western methods can be added to manage back pain. Acupuncture, massage, and cognitive-behavioral therapy can help back pain sufferers manage pain and experience relief.

Back pain and headache free naturally

Ever since the beginning of time, mankind has always looked for ways to treat pain either physically or psychologically. With the advance of medical science, we have seen the increase of factory manufactured products on the selves of our local pharmacies. Pain relief or management nowadays are a multi billion dollar business and would continue to increase many folds more especially with increased of complexity and stress of modern life.

I must say that in recent years there’ve been a surge in demand for natural form of pain relief as people become more educated and informed. Natural pain relief such as herbal, massages etc are known to have less side effects as compared to pain killer pills or similar medicine. Sufferers of chronic pains eg. Back or leg pain could testify that methods such as aromatherapy and other forms of massages if done over a period of time in a consistent manner is able to relief these patients from suffering further pain in the same area. Let’s face it…I would anytime go for a relaxing body massages by trained therapist as compared popping pain killers or other chemicals into my body. Our bodies were made naturally and we should try our best to keep it that way and minimize the usage of artificial chemicals and drugs which may provide pain relief but the effects of long term prescription will only be manifested a few years down the road. Another good reason to use natural pain relief products is that the modern chemically formulated medicines have adverse effects on the body if taken long term. Enough said about the natural pain remedies and I ‘m truly convince that this is the way to go for us in the future. As the world gets more polluted, we need to take care of our bodies. One way is to eat well, organic, chemical free food and the other which is harder to do sometimes is to use less of the man made chemical medicine and more of the natural form of pain relief. We need discipline to do this but if we stick by it, we would reap the rewards of better health and longer and more prosperous life in the future.
