What Can You Do To Relieve Back Pain

November 27th, 2009

Back pain comes from many different sources. This means that even though most back pain is very hard to handle, there are different reasons why you could be in a lot of pain. You have to find out why your back hurts so that you can go about the best course of treatment to relieve back pain and get your life back. Not all back pain is created equally, and there are some types that are far easier to treat than others, even though the pain may feel the same in area and intensity. Knowing how you hurt your back and your family history can go a long way towards finding out how to get your pain under control or to disappear all together.

While family history may not mean that you get back pain out of nowhere, but it can mean that you are more susceptible to problems in certain areas of your back. When your doctor asks you about pain in your family, try to think of any problems those in your immediate family have had. If this problem is genetic, your program to relieve back pain is going to be a bit different than if your problem is totally due to injury. You should also be upfront about your own back history. If you have had pain before, make sure you speak up and say so.

If you are lucky, your pain is just from your back and/or your hips being out of line or you have a muscle sprain or strain. These are painful situations to be sure, but your quest to relieve back pain may come to you rather easy if you take the right steps. In most of these cases, you may need to see a doctor, a chiropractor, and take some medications short term to get your back pain relief. You will also be given some exercises that you can to do strengthen your back so that you do not repeat the same problems. You should be pain free soon enough if this is the source of your problems.

Other times, what you have to do to relieve back pain is going to be a bit more complicated. If you have done anything to rupture, injure, or destroy any of the discs in your back, you are going to be in a lot of pain and it may take a while to figure out the best course of treatment. There are physical therapy routines that you can do with a therapist that can help and may allow you to avoid surgery, but that is not always the case. You may have to go through the therapy first, and if that does not work, you may be referred for surgery. It all depends on the extent and location of the injury and what your doctor decides is best.

If you do not like the course of treatment that your doctor is recommending to relieve back pain, you do have the option of going out and getting a second and even a third opinion. If you are hurt at work, you will have to see the doctor your company sends you to, but that does not mean that you can not go out and see your own doctor as well. Some company doctors are more worried about money than you, so keep that in mind if you are not getting the help with back pain relief that you want. Your pain is not going to go away on its own, so fight for the treatment and attention that you need.

Relieve Back Pain

How to find relief for lower back pain.

Your health is arguably the most important thing. Without good health, it is nearly impossible to enjoy life, whether it is your fulfilling job or career, your loving spouse, your great friends and good times, or your delightful children.

If you are not feeling well, you simply cannot enjoy these treasures that make life worth living. For millions of people, severe back pain is the reason their health suffers. For that reason, trying to relieve back pain is crucial. Here are some tips to relieve back pain.

The key to relieve back pain lies in finding out the cause of it.

Think about it; how can you relieve back pain if you are not even sure what causes it. Finding the cause of back pain can actually be quite difficult. Why? Well, back pain does not always occur in the place of the problem. Perhaps your neck and your shoulders are sore.

You might think the problem is there, but it might be in your lower back and transfering up to your shoulders.

The point of pain is not necessarily the point of the problem. Eliminating your cause of back pain will relieve back pain.

One of the main causes of back pain is stress. If can remove or diminish your stress levels, you have a good chance to relieve back pain.

There are really only two ways to combat stress. You can either eliminate the cause of stress, such as a difficult job or money troubles, or you can create ways to deal with the stress.

Regular exercise is usually a great stress relief.

In fact, exercise might help relieve back pain all on its own. Often times, back pain, and other types of pain is caused from a lack of fitness in your muscles.

If your muscles are not in shape, you can often feel them inflame. If your back is sore, you actually want to make it sorer, but finding strength training exercises for your back.

This additional soreness is only temporary as you strengthen your back muscles and eventually relieve back pain.

To relieve back pain will take a little bit of effort and thinking.

You need to identify the cause of your back pain and either reduce or eliminate the stress and strain in your life or you need to increase your exercise routine to incorporate good back strengthening exercises.

The good news is that none of this is too hard or even too expensive to do. You can relieve back pain if you take the right steps and finally enjoy the life that you have built for yourself.

The Back Pain Relief Guides of the Healthy Back Institute do help us in understanding and seeking relief for lower back pain

Lower Back Pain – Hip External Rotation

by Jennifer Chu, M.D.
Lower back pain is commonly due to irritation of the L5 and S1 nerve roots. Hip pain may result secondary to pain and spasm muscles of the lower back and all muscles that cross the hip.

Patients may have trouble with external rotation of the hip due to pain and spasm of muscles that perform external rotation or from pain and spasm of muscles that perform internal rotation and thus limiting the performance of the external rotators.

This week, we shall talk about muscles that perform external rotation. To test these muscles, the patient should lie on his stomach and bend the knee up. The patient then turns the leg and foot in toward midline. This motion produces external rotation of the hip. To test the strength of the external rotators, the examiner must try to push the leg outward away from the midline.

The hip external rotators are:

* gluteus maximus lower fibers (inferior gluteal nerve L5, S1 primarily S1)
* obturator internus (L5, S1, S2)
* superior gemellus (L5, S1, S2)
* inferior gemellus (L4, L5, S1)
* quadratus femoris (L4, L5, S1)
* obturator externus (obturator nerve, L2, L3, L4)
* adductor magnus, lower portion (sciatic nerve, L5, S1)
* adductor brevis (obturator nerve, L2, L3, L4)
* piriformis (S1, S2)

Examine your life style and be prepared for change to bring about permanent relief for lower back pain

Back Pain Relief – Can it Be That Simple?

Back pain relief is a search term used in Google; it is the third highest term searched relating to back pain. Why?

The reason so many people are still searching for the term "back pain relief" is simple. They are still suffering from their painful back. And every month the numbers remain the same. Sure the statistics are frightening…

80% of adults will suffer back ache at some stage in their life that stops them working.

40% of adults every year have an episode of pain in their back.

7% of adults are suffering right now.

The statistics get even worse when you look at how many people fit into the "chronic" backpain statistics eventually.

So is back pain relief that hard to attain? Is it an elusive mystical beast that is more a figment of your wishful imagination?

Actually it isn’t. There is some bad news and some good news!

The bad news is – there is no miracle cure. There is no overnight cure that allows you to wake in the morning feeling 100% and free of you dreaded pain. You need to learn some techniques to remove it and at times if you have left it too long you may need some professional help (still help your self though as it will save you time and money).

The good news is – although you need some effort on your part, that effort is minimal. So is the time you need to spend each day – in fact a few minutes each day is all you need. As for money, well most internet products that actually work will cost you less than $100 USD, those less effective and more words than techniques are as cheap as $30 USD (but you may need to buy a few to get all the techniques you need).

The simple answer to back pain relief is this.

You need to remove all the factors causing your painful back if you want permanent and complete relief. This means you need to address a few lifestyle factors and stresses, as much as you need to address the physical factors.

The physical factors are easy – all you need to do is stretch tight muscles, stimulate the nerve and blood supply to weak muscles, realign your spine and balance your pelvis. Do this and all the physical factors are removed and back pain relief is yours.

Then each day use a few techniques to retrain your body to be well and stay well, to reduce stress naturally and to keep your joints and muscles working well. Back pain relief may sound complex but in fact it is an easy task if you know the simple steps to follow.

Quitting Smoking one of the 5 recommended ways to get relief for lower back pain

Managing Back Pain – 5 Strategies for a Pain-Free Back

Eight out of every 10 people will have back pain at one point or another. While a percentage of those are due to traumatic injury or a congenital condition, most back pain is due to overuse of weak, deconditioned muscles. The good news is that this means much back pain is preventable. These five simple tips will help you prevent that nagging back pain, or avoid it altogether if you are lucky enough not to suffer from it now.

Strategy 1: Proper Lifting Technique

Don’t try to lift objects too heavy for you, and always use proper lifting technique. You want to lift with your legs and not your back, as your legs are much stronger. Make sure you pull in your stomach muscles and keep your upper body straight, without bending at the waist or rounding your lower back. Try not to look down as this can cause your shoulders to round forward. Keep the object as close to your body as possible, and do not twist when lifting.

Strategy 2: Good Sitting Posture

Sit in a chair with good lumbar support and proper position and height for the task. Keep your shoulders back. Monitor your sitting position often and periodically walk around the office or gently stretch muscles to relieve tension. Do this by standing, placing the palms of your hands on your lower back, and bending back slightly, looking at the ceiling as you exhale.

You can purchase a lumbar support to place on your chair, or a pillow or rolled-up towel placed behind the small of your back can provide some lumbar support. If you must sit for a long period of time, rest your feet on a low stool or a stack of books.

When sitting, try to avoid sofas and chairs with thick cushioning as these can force your lower back out of line. Don’t sit with your hips out in front of your shoulders, as this will cause you to round your lower back which can lead to back pain.

Strategy 3: Adjust Your Sleeping Position

Sleep on your side, and to reduce any curve in your spine place a pillow between your knees. This will keep your top leg from pulling your pelvis out of line, which in turn causes your spine to be out of line. If you sleep on your back, place a pillow underneath your knees. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, and always sleep on a firm surface.

You spend almost a third of your life asleep, so your mattress is not a purchase you want to make solely based on price. The right sleeping surface can make a world of difference in how your back feels every day.

Strategy 4: Quit Smoking

If you smoke, quit. Most people don’t realize this, but smoking reduces blood flow to the lower spine and causes the spinal discs to degenerate. Not that you really needed another reason to quit smoking…

Strategy 5: Strengthen Your Core Muscles

As I said, most back pain is caused by weakened and deconditioned core (abs and back) muscles. Correcting this can do wonders, and is easier than most people think. Core exercises such as those contained in my program "A Healthy Back in Ten Minutes a Day" can be done without any equipment, and can be done anywhere. And, a routine of core-strengthening exercises such as Planks, Side Bridges, Back Extensions, and others can easily be added to your existing exercise program, or done by themselves in less time than it takes to read the daily paper.

Of course, following any period of prolonged inactivity, you must begin any exercise or fitness program slowly, and only after consulting with your primary health care provider. If you have any known medical condition or take any medications, it is imperative that you check with your doctor prior to making changes in your activity level.

There you go. If you employ these some or all of these simple tips, your back will start to feel better quickly. Even though I live with 2 herniated disks, these tips, along with some basic exercises, keep me virtually pain-free. They can do the same for you.

It Is Essential To Treat Low Back Paint Promptly

January 23rd, 2009

Prompt treatment is essential to bring about relief for lower back pain, else it  may result in much more serious conditions and complications.

Lower Back Pain Treatment

by: Saurabh Jain 7eb df0 The lower back pain treatment is required as lower back pain affects us more than any accident or any other short-term sickness. Though lower back pain treatment is available, it is important to understand and recognize the pain in proximity in order to select the best treatment. Lower back pain can occur any time and while doing any activity, such as driving a car, picking heavy objects, playing, or because of an accident. Lower back pain is so prevalent in America that at least 100 million workdays are lost every year and accounts for 15% of a person’s sick leaves. That is quite a lot! If one does not receive lower back pain treatment on time, it might become potentially more damaging. Types of Lower Back Pain Treatment Lower back pain can be treated only when you have identified the origin of the pain. After you have identified the affected area, there are various options as far as lower back pain treatment is concerned, which generally depends on the severity of the pain. If you have a ruptured muscle or ligament, the treatment you would need would be completely different and best person to decide on the treatment type would be a spine specialist. One of the most common treatments for low back pain is acetaminophen. It is a pain reliever that is taken orally. This will relieve you from pain for a short period. However, if you pain persists, then other oral medications maybe prescribed, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, the safest form of treatment is correct back exercises. They not only help in relaxing the muscles, but also improve blood flow. When suffering from back pain, the best resting position is to lie down on your back. Place some pillows under your knees, and bend your knees. This removes the unnecessary pressure and weight off your back, providing you with the much needed relief. It has been proved that back exercises are extremely helpful in providing relief against acute lower back pain. Then there is a heating pad, which is far more effective than ice packs and enables you to reduce painful muscle spasms and relax your ligaments For more information on Back Pain please click http://www.backpain-resources-online.com About The Author Saurabh Jain is the Executive Editor of Online Back pain resource, www.backpain-resources-online.com.
